Young Edo Politician Escapes Multiple Assassination Attempt on His Life 

FREEPRESS – The People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) counsellorship candidate and an accounting graduate from the prestigious Ambrose Alli University, (AAU), Ekpoma, Mr. Kendris Imafidon allegedly escaped assassination attempt on his last year on February 7th, 2013 by unknown assailants who besieged his house at night.

Similar attempt was reportedly made on his life last night being the 20th of May, 2014 on the road leading to his village. 

The 32-year old plus popular politician may have inadvertently stepped on toes in his bid to represent his local enclave; Iyoba ward in Orhionmwon Local Government Council in Edo State, as well as his open support for gay right.

The assassins stormed his campaign office which partly houses his resident at 7, osaretin street, egbokor village, Orhionmwon local government area of the state. They arrived at midnight, ransacked the building and chased away everyone in the vicinity. 

One of the campaign staffer (name withheld) told FreePress Nigeria thus: “the assailants visited Mr. Kendris’ mother’s home also at 33, Ogbe street, Egbokor village Orhionmwon local government area of Edo state, and descended on the old woman with clubs and sticks and got her legs broken. “They threatened her to dissuade the son from politics or else they will kill him”, he said. 

The 1982 born vibrant politician and Gay Right Campaigner has been having clashes with the Action Congress (AC) opposition politicians, the police and other paramilitary agencies. The Nigerian government has mounted stringent campaign against gay marriage and bisexuality.

Nigeria government is one of the foremost Africa countries to have legislated against gay right and criminalised the acts. The legislation was passed into law by Goodluck Jonathan’s government. The law is meant to punish offenders from upward of 10-year to 14-year imprisonment.
