Humanitarian, Health Ministeries To Deworm Primary Sch. Children, Beneficiaries Of Home Grown School Feeding Programme – Minister

THE Minister of Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, has said that her ministry in Collaboration with the Federal Ministry of health will deworm all the Primary School Children that are currently benefitting from the Home Grown School Feeding Program across the 36 states of the federation.
Making the disclosure on yesterday in Kano during the National Training of Trainers for the implementation of National Deworming and School Program Hajiya Farouk who was represented by Dr Muhammad Nasiru Mahmoud Special Adviser to the President on National Social Investment Program, said the idea is to tackle the Challenges of Malnutrition among the Primary School Pupils.
The Minister said ” one of the objectives of the National Feeding program is to address problems of Malnutrition among children because available data have shown that the rate of Malnutrition is high among Children in the Country.
She maitained that the National Home Grown School Feeding Program feeds Children one meal per day which is very significant in maitaining good health and physical fitness of the School Children .
” Good Food can be able to convert malnutrition among Children and improve School enrollment among other objectives”
Hajiya Farouq stated further that ” you know Children are also prone to infection especially parasites, we have many parasites that affects children and no matter what you do to feed the Children they will be sharing it with the parasites.”
She said for one to be able to eliminate and remove worms from these pupils there is the need for proper feeding in enhancing their nutritional status .
The Minister stated further that the National Training of Trainers (TOT) is going to identify experts thus people from the federal ministry of health to train the trainers from the State, local governments, Ward down to Primary Schools levels.
She said her ministry in Collaboration with the Federal Ministry of health will deworm all the Primary School Children who are beneficiaries of Home Grown School Program to achieve this target.
Speaking earlier the state Coordinator of Home Grown School Feeding in Kano state Alhaji Baba Aminu Zubairu said So far over One Million two Hundred Twenty five Thousand Eighty Four Children 1, 225, 84 Children are benefitting from the feeding programme across the state
He said as a result of the previous Census conducted in Schools Seven Hundred Pupils have increased in the state enrollment because they were attracted by the feeding going on .
Alhaji Zubair said the state government is working with the National Bureau of Statics for them to also form part of the feeding program going in the state.
