Man, 37, Discharged, Acquitted Of Alleged Armed Robbery

AN Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, on Thursday, discharged and acquitted a 37-year-old man, Arise Olakanmi, of allegations of conspiracy and armed robbery.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police had, on March 6, charged Olakanmi with conspiracy and armed robbery.
The defendant had been remanded at Abolongo correctional facility in Oyo town, pending legal advice.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adebola Adeola, while discharging Olakanmi, noted that the legal advice on the case had been released.
Adeola said the legal advice stated that the defendant had no case to answer and should, therefore, be acquitted.

The magistrate commended the defendant’s counsel, Mr M. Oladidupo, for working tirelessly to ensure that the legal advice came out on time.
According to her, dismissing cases on time will aid prison decongestion and enhance freedom for those who have no case to answer.
