FREEPRESS – The Senate on Tuesday approved the nominations of Ejembi Eko and Amina Augie as Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, using electronic voting system.
President Muhammadu wrote the Senate on July 19 to consider and confirm Mr. Eko and Mrs. Augie as Justices of the Supreme Court.
Following legislative actions which involved screening by the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, chaired by David Umaru (APC-Niger), the Senate received for consideration the report on the nominations of the two Justices.
Mr. Umaru asked that nominations be confirmed, having found the nominees qualified.
Mr. Eko hails from Benue State, North Central, while Mrs. Augie is from Kebbi State, North West.
Both were recommended by the National Judicial Council to Mr. Buhari to replace John Fabiyi and Muhammed Muntaka-Coomsie upon their retirement.
The Senate used e-voting system to vote on the confirmation of the nominations of the two who are currently Justices of the Court of Appeal.
A total of 38 Senators voted in support of Mr. Eko. One voted against him.
For Mrs Augie, a total of 39 votes were recorded, while one vote was invalid.
