Two Security Guards, 2 Drivers Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Goods

TWO security guards and two drivers were on Tuesday docked in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing and receiving stolen goods worth N17.1 million.

The police charged  Sopuruchi Onyeije, 33, a driver, Ezike Eze, 43, a security guard, Nwachukwu Ifeanyi , 44, a driver and Salihu Yaradua, a security guard with conspiracy,  theft and receiving stolen goods.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the defendants committed the offence  between November 2023 and January 2024 at the ”ATM” Hawington Limited, located at GRA, Ikeja.

The prosecutor said that the first and second defendants, who worked with the company, stole 45 rolls of cable wire and 71 buckets of paint all  worth N17. 1 million.

The prosecutor said that the company discovered that the goods were missing after taking stock.

The prosecutor said that during investigation, it was discovered that the company driver, who is the first defendant, conspired with the security guard to steal the goods.

The prosecutor also said that the first and second defendants sold those goods to the third and fourth defendants.

The offence, he said, contravened  the provisions of sections 287, 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N300,000 each with two sureties in likesum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until May 24 for mention.(NAN)
