Two docked For Allegedly Shoplifting Items Valued N2.6m

THE police in Lagos, on Friday, arraigned two men before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly shoplifting items valued N2.6million.

Stanley Okafor, 36 and Godwin Emeka, 33, whose addresses were not given, are being charged with conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Dr Simon Uche, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on May 16, at Balogun Market, Trade Fair Complex Area, Ojo.

Uche said that Okafor and Emeka conspired with others now at large to commit the crime.

He said that the defendants stole 26 cartons of Aani Basmati rice, one pack of Golden Heel Perfume Gift Set, one pack of Red Heel Perfume Gift Set, two packs of Led Head Torch, 12 packs of Oba Spaghetti, and 1kg of Rarasa Fusilli.

The prosecutor further said that the defendants stole 300ml of Febreze Vanilla Spray, one pack of TRS Coconut Milk, four packs of Axe Spray, one pack of BTM Mackerel Tomatoes Sauce, and one pack of Femfresh Feminine Wash among other items.

He told the court that the stolen items valued N2.6 million, belonged to the  complainant, Mr Philip Ama.

Uche said that the offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mr L.K.J Layeni, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until July 29, for trial.
