OFTENTIMES your electricity bill comes and you find that it is quite high and you wonder how you consumed such electricity in a month. It could be that your bill actually get high because you do not conduct energy audit , to find out where the leakages that exacerbates your bill come from.

Here are some tips to conserve energy:

All your lights and gadgets do not have to be on at the same time. Put off your bulbs , Television and even refrigerator you are not using at a particular time. Your refrigerator does not need to be on till day break. Once you check and you find that the things inside are cold or frozen , put the refrigerators off at night and put it back on in the morning. If one refrigerator can contain the contents of two, put everything in one refrigerator and put the other off.

Put on your security light at night and put off your inside light. But , ensure you put off your security light early. The earlier you put off your security light , the more money you save on energy. Same should be applicable for passage lights.

If you run a business , watch how customers and your staff use your energy .Persons always coming to charge phones in your office , increases the consumption of electricity.If you ran a hotel , always check the rooms , to ensure the air conditioners and lights are off when guests are out.You may need to employ an energy compliance officer , it is cheaper to do in the long run , as you can save as much as half a million naira in a month , from the activities of your compliance officer , who can also be put to other tasks in the firm.

Fix only energy saving bulbs.Do not put on your wall sockets , when not in use , once it is not active , put it off . If your metre is running too fast , check the earthing system and get the Distribution Company and your electrician to do an integrity test , which could lead to an adjustment that will reduce the bill .
