Security Guard Jailed 19 Months For Stealing 28 Pieces Of Chairs

A Lugbe Grade I Area  Court in  Abuja, sentenced a 27-year-old  security guard,  Yusuf Amos to 19 months imprisonment for stealing 28 pieces of executive and plastic chairs from a school

The police charged Amos, who lives in  Kuchigoro village airport road Abuja  with criminal breach of and theft.

The Judge, Malam Aliyu Kagarko, sentenced Amos after he pleaded guilty to the offence and prayed the court for leniency.

Kagarko, however, gave the convict the option to pay N50,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes.

He said the punishment would have been stiffer if the convict had not saved the court the rigours of a protracted prosecution.

Earlier, the Prosecution counsel, Steven Osho told the court that sometime in 2023 the convict was employed as security guard in Government Secondary School Kuchigoro Abuja,.

Osho said that on March 24 the convict stole 19 plastic chairs and nine executive chairs  belonging to the school.

He said that the convict was arrested by some boys in the community and handed over to the police for investigation.

The prosecutor said that during police interrogation and investigation, the convict confessed that he stole the chairs and sold them to a scavenger.

He said Police  investigation revealed that  all the stolen chairs were worth N315, 000

Osho said that the offence  contravened the provisions of sections 348,and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
