Police Discover Man Who Shattered Hand With Dynamite During Protest In Rivers Hospital By Davies Iheamnachor
The operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have discovered the suspect who shattered his hand with a suspected dynamite allegedly in his possession during a protest in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.
The suspect in the failed detonation of alleged dynamite outside the Hotel Presidential along Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway during a protest was nabbed, revived and is now receiving treatment
The suspected was discovered at the Intensive Care Unit of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, where he was secretly brought in for treatment
Tuesday, a middle-aged man, yet to be named had blew up himself during a protest by some leaders of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Terriry in support of police occupation of the 23 local government area secretariat over the LGA leadership crisis in the state.
It was alleged that the suspected was among the protesters and that he was in possession of the suspected dynamite that went off in his hand.
It was gathered that the dynamite had exploded and shattered his hand as well causing panic in in the area.
The incident happened around Hotel Presidential on Port Harcourt-Aba Express way, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
According a source, Obinna (surname withheld) said the suspected was whisked by other protesters as security agents trooped to the location where the explosion happened.
Although, at Press time, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, who did not dismiss the report, had said she was yet to find out the full details of what transpired, but promised to get by to our correspondent later.
Iringe-Koko in a paragraph tip said: “Please let me find out the full details surrounding the alleged incident and get back to you.”
But, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Olatunji Disu, while appearing on a television programme monitored in Port Harcourt, confirmed that a young man blew up himself with an explosive, noting that investigations were still on into the development.
However, police have mounted tight security around the RSUTH with mandate to secure law-abiding citizens, and particularly patients and staff of the facility
