A trader, Abubakar Adamu, who allegedly stole a door valued at N150,000, on Friday, appeared before a Zuba Magistrates’ Court in Abuja.
Adamu, 24, of Zuba Ikwa area, Abuja, who is standing trial on a charge of stealing, however, denied committing the offence.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada told the court that the complainant, Mr Mohammed Sani of Zuba, Abuja, reported the matter at the Zuba Police Station on April 18.
“The complainat reported that on April 17 at about 8:30 p.m. the defendant went to his shop at Zuba fruit market and dishonestly made away with the door valued at N150,000 for no cause,” Ogada said.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation an eye witness testified against the defendant, but when quizzed the latter could not give a satisfactory account of himself.
Ogada told the court that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Abdulazeez Mohammed, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million and a surety in like sum.
He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and produce reliable means of identification.
He adjourned the matter until May 28 for hearing.
