Obaseki shuns governorship debate again

FREEPRESS – APC candidate Godwin Obaseki has defended his absence at last Sunday’s governorship debate saying he was focused on participating on only well-recognised debates.

Last Sunday’s organised by a group called Eggheads and tagged ‘Mandate’ was the second debate Obaseki has shunned after boycotting the one organized by the Benson Idahosa University (BIU).

Defending his absence, Obaseki speaking through the Deputy Director in charge of communication, media and publicity of the Godwin Obaseki Campaign Organization, Greg Ogiogwa, said the campaign was not sure of the credibility, objectivity and impartiality of the organisers.

He said, “There is only one reputable debate organizing group in Nigeria, the Nigeria Election Debate Group, which consists of the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria and reputable media houses.

“We subscribe to that and the debates are coming up this week. We will be part of that and we have issued a statement to that effect. That is one reputable platform that can be relatively trusted.”

12 candidates of various political parties including those of the PDP, KOWA, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Action Alliance (AA) and the United Progressives Party (UPP) participated in the debate.
