Oba Of Benin Appreciates Gov. Obaseki For Rejecting Demands For Dukedom In Benin Kingdom
AGAINST the backdrop of the lies and propaganda being spread by the Edo State All Progressive Congress APC and the campaign team of Monday Okpebholo that the Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki is in court against the Oba of Benin Kingdom, Omo ‘N Oba Oku akpolorkpolor, Oba Ewuare II, a video has surfaced showing where the Oba was actually thanking the state governor for rejecting the request by some mischief seekers for Dukes to be appointed in some communities within the great Kingdom.
In the viral video by ITV Benin seen by urbanscopnews, the traditional ruler reassured citizens that the state government would not accede to the request of disgruntled dukes who spearheaded a petition seeking the creation of parallel Benin Traditional Councils.
Oba Ewuare II said, “We thank Governor Godwin Obaseki for not acceding to that particular request.”
The first-class monarch therefore called on loyalists to rally support and defend Benin culture and tradition, which belong to Nigerians and remain a source of pride for everyone.
The Oba who noted that the Benin Duke is not a political appointment but a cultural assignment, stressed that the Benin throne would not tolerate a situation where the same structure created by the Oba Palace would be used to undermine Benin culture and tradition through unnecessary scheming.
