NIGERIA’S Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s anticipated participation in the US-Africa Business Summit in Dallas has been abruptly halted due to a technical issue with his aircraft, the presidency disclosed.
‘Vice President Kashim Shettima, who was originally scheduled to represent the president, was unable to make the trip following a technical fault with his aircraft, forcing him to make a detour,’ the presidency revealed, elucidating the circumstances surrounding the cancellation.
Consequently, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar will step in to attend the summit on behalf of the Nigerian delegation, filling the void left by Vice-President Shettima’s absence.
Initially slated to stand in for President Bola Tinubu, who is currently abroad, Vice-President Shettima’s unexpected detour underscores the unpredictable nature of international travel.
‘While the Vice-President is unable to attend the summit, he remains committed to fulfilling his national duties,’ affirmed the presidency in a statement, assuring continuity in governmental responsibilities despite the setback.
The decision to cancel the trip was made in accordance with the advice of the Presidential Air Fleet, emphasising the paramount importance of safety and adherence to protocol.
The US-Africa Business Summit, a gathering of African heads of states and business leaders from both continents, aims to foster deeper business partnerships and explore avenues for economic collaboration.
Vice-President Shettima’s participation was anticipated in discussions focusing on African infrastructure investment and agribusiness, reflecting Nigeria’s commitment to advancing key sectors for sustainable development.
Organised by the Corporate Council on Africa, the summit serves as a platform for dialogue and engagement aimed at driving growth and prosperity across Africa and beyond.
