ONE of the sons of the Kwankwasiyya Movement Leader and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has been nominated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State for the position of commissioner in his cabinet.
Mustapha is the first son of former Governor Kwankwaso and a brother-in-law to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and is among the four nominees whose names were sent to the Kano State House of Assembly for confirmation.
According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the governor had written to the Assembly, seeking confirmation of the nominees’ appointment.
Government House sources in Kano hinted that Governor Yusuf also nominated the sacked Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya who threatened the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal (GEPT) judges in Kano for reappointment as commissioner.
Reports said that on the list of nominees were Alhaji Abdul-Jabbar Umar Garki, Shehu Usman Aliyu Karaye, Alhaji Mustapha Rabiu Musa, and Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Kibiya
Additionally, the statement said Governor Yusuf has also notified the House of his administration’s creation of four new ministries as part of efforts to deliver on his campaign promises to the people of Kano State.
The statement read thus; “In a notification letter addressed to the Kano State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt Hon Jibrin Ismail Falgore and read before the members of the House, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, said the establishment of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Eradication, Ministry of Solid Minerals Resources, Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, and Ministry of Internal Security and Special Service will be part of his administration plans to improve efficiency and performance in the state.”
According to the governor, the new ministries would go a long way in improving socioeconomic activities and delivery of good governance as well as putting the state at a vintage position to sustainable development.
The Governor’s letter to the Assembly read; ’’In accordance with the powers conferred on me by the Constitution of the Republic of Nigeria and based on established procedure, I wish to request the kind consideration and approval of the Honourable House to appoint four Commissioners and members of the Executive Council.’’
‘’The request is hereby forwarded for approval by the Kano Assembly.
“Please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards and best wishes.”
The Speaker of the House, Jibrin Ismail Falgore, who read the letter at plenary on Tuesday, later announced the commencement of vacation of the House and its resumption on April, 2nd, 2024. This is as the lawmakers have scheduled April 2, 2024, to screen the nominees. [Forefront]
