FEMI Fani-Kayode’s father was the deputy governor to Gov Akintola of the Old Western region, who betrayed Chief Obafemi Awolowo and worked with Ahmed Bello, Premier of the Old Northern region, to be made Gov and deputy governor respectively, of the Old Western region during the 1964-5 regional elections in the Western region. This was engineered and led by the Tafawa Belewa, Ahmed Bello’s protege Prime Minister of Nigeria. When eventually Chief Awolowo protested, they charged him of committing treason and got him imprisoned at Calabar prison, simply because he (Chief Awolowo) protested and refused to accept the rigging of the 1964-5 election in the Western region by the Northern Fulani dominated federal government of Tafawa Belawa, that saw Akintola as Premier and Chief Kayode, father of Femi Fani-Kayode as deputy Premier of the Old Western region.
This injustice and incarceration of Awolowo by the Fulani dominated federal government of Tafawa Belawa/Ahmed Bello, was what led to the first Military Coup of January 15, 1966 in Nigeria. The coup plotters or revolutionaries as they called themselves, wanted to correct the injustice, free Chief Awolowo from prison and make him the Prime Minister. Unfortunately, the coup was hijacked by powers that be, British and its Northern spin-offs and their sympathisers in Western Nigeria, who turned it upside down and called it “Igbo coup”, to deceive the gullible. However, Ojukwu the Governor of the Old Eastern region had to free Awolowo from Calabar prison where the Caliphate had incarcerated him. Unfortunately, when Chief Awolowo returned to the Western Nigeria from Calabar prison, the North was advised by the British to offer him the prestigious posts of Vice-President to Gen Yakubu Gowon as well as the Financial and Economic Minister, which Awolowo willingly accepted.
In this way, Chief Awolowo and his Yoruba people joined the Northern Caliphate and Islamist Oligarchy in executing the war of genocide against Ojukwu and the Biafran people, … a war that resulted in the killing of between 3-5 million Biafrans, mostly Igbos.
Today, Femi Fani-Kayode, the son of the deputy premier (governor) of the Old Western region, that his father worked against the interest of Awolowo and his Yoruba people, is back to the same old game of betrayal as his father and Gov Akintola played against Awolowo and the Yoruba nation, which was the catalyst that led to the genocidal Nigeria-Biafra War (1967-1970), in which between 3-million Biafrans, mostly Igbos were killed by the Nigerian State under the watch of Gen Yakubu Gowon and his deputy Chief Obafemi Awolowo! Wonders never end!
