A Dei-dei Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced one Umar Ibrahim and Abba Suleiman to seven months in prison each for stealing a cellphone.
The defendants who were convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty to criminal conspiracy and theft begged the court for leniency.
The Judge, Saminu Suleiman, gave the duo N 200,000 option of fine each and warned them to desist from committing crimes and be of good behaviour.
Earlier, the Prosecuting, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant, Yusuf Ibrahim reported the matter at the Zuba Police Station on March 20.
Ogada said the defendants of Zuba Fruit Market conspired and stole one Gionee Android phone belonging to the complainant’s customer on the said date.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation the defendants admitted to the crime and confessed to have sold the phone to one “Yellow” whom is now at large.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
