ONCE upon a time in Benin Kingdom during the continuous reign of the revered Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II; a certain man named Olumide Akpata, bearing a Yoruba name, who in the guise to indigenise himself, visited the Palace of the great Oba Ewuare II to make an official presentation of himself.

Olumide Akpata, the Governorship Candidate of Labour Party (LP), addressing the Oba of Benin, said he is a son of the palace, which our royal father diplomatically corrected and lashed him for using the words: “son of the palace.” The Oba said, “you are not from the royal family. Therefore, you are not a son of the palace.” I looked around and tried to find out from my chiefs whether we have any son of the palace contesting for governorship position. But there is none. Point of correction, you are a son of the soil.

Olumide Akpata’s media and supporters are trying to market the words; son of the soil, because of their over ambitious move to enthrone Olumide Akpata in Osadebe Avenue. Who is a son of the soil? Further explanation will help out. Continue reading.

Sometimes, I wonder why some people try to politicize the palace, because of their political ambition and self glorification of their struggles for state’s power. It is preposterous and unholy.

I read an article sent by Olumide Akpata’s Media, spreading their bedsheets and blankets across the social media trying to defend the ridiculous act displayed by their principal and governorship candidate at the palace of the Oba of Benin.

It is out of place to prioritize and take advantage of the statement by the Oba that Olumide Akpata is the son of the soil. My question is: Are we all not sons of the soil? We are Edo State people. Therefore, we are sons and daughters of the soil. Our revered Oba Ewuare II is right.

Why are you people taking glory for that and using it as a tool to mislead the public that the Oba endorsed Barr. Olumide Akpata. This is absolutely hilarious and lugubrious.

Let us correct the myopic reasoning and mindsets of some social media urchins and bigots that our Oba doesn’t endorse, rather he gives his blessings to everyone that visits the palace.

One thing for sure is that you can buy political power, but you cannot buy royalty that is based on bloodline. Hence, the Oba of Benin palace cannot be bought with money. It is based on hereditary through bloodline.

Truth be told. The truth is bitter, but it prevails.
