He was reported to have been hospitalized after falling off his treadmill during a routine exercise in his Abuja residence.

Reacting to the news of Dokpesi’s death, Okpeseyi said that Nigeria had lost an illustrious son whose contributions to the stability of the polity and development of journalism were writ large.

He described Dokpesi as a pacesetter in the independent broadcast media industry with the establishment of the first privately-owned African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM.

He said: “Dr. Raymond Dokpesi was an Old Boy of Immaculate Conception College, Benin City, my Alma Mater. We will miss him greatly because he was very active.

“May God grant his gentle soul eternal Rest-in-Peace while we pray God to console his family.”
