Nigerians Tweeps Tackle Prominent Monarch, Oba Of Benin For Seeking Postponement Of ‘EndBadGovernance’ Protests
NIGERIAN netizens on X have tackled the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II for urging them to shift the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August.
In recent reports, SaharaReporters noted that Nigerian citizens are banding together to organise a nationwide protest against bad governance under the banner of ‘EndBadGovernanceInNigeria’. The protest, which is set to take place across the country, aims to highlight the various shortcomings and missteps of the Nigerian government in order to demand systemic change.
The demonstration also aims to convey the public’s dissatisfaction with the economic and social hardships under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Oba Ewuare II urged Nigerians to postpone the action and give the Nigerian Government more time.
He said, “Arising from the emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) held in Abuja on Monday, July 22, the Omo N’Oba wishes to appeal to the general public to give the Federal Government sufficient time to implement its economic policies aimed at alleviating the present hardship experienced by Nigerians.
“The Omo N’Oba appeals to those planning the August 1st nationwide protest to shelve the plan. The Omo N’Oba also urges the Federal Government to intensify efforts in the implementation of its economic and security policies.”
However, the monarch’s statement has sparked criticism from Nigerians, especially on X, who deem the King’s advice as unhelpful and insensitive to the struggles of ordinary citizens.
A user, Sholz said, “Even Oba of Benin too, is like you people don’t get it, people are barely surviving due to poor decisions from the government and you’re talking about shelving the protest..NO Oba NO.
“I so much love the Oba of Benin that I will always listen to him when he speaks but this time around am hungry and frankly I no dey hear well when hungry dey catch me. I need food, my family needs food not palliative type of food o, I mean I work, you pay me, I buy food and eat,” another user, BLEXXMAN said.
Kelvin said, “OBA OF BENIN, you’re my father and I’m a proud Benin boy, but you see this your plea? I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but he nor go work.
“We’ll protest sir with all due respect.”
Deus ibi est said, “Oba of Benin cannot use his I fluence to make his friends in government to fix By Pass Road, I lost all the respect I had for him when he supported Tinubu & when I saw that road. Silly old, oily & greasy occultic men.”
Shagmoney said, “Oba of Benin, is like you people don’t get it, things are expensive in the market, and the price keep going up, prices of Drugs are expensive, the economy is on life support, people barely eat balanced diet, and you’re telling us to shelve the protest..NO Oba NO.”

According to EZT, the king does not have anything to lose inasmuch as his salary is being paid steadily.
