THE Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has commissioned the headquarters of the 47 Engineers Brigade, two newly rehabilitated and constructed roads, and a newly constructed office at Maimalari cantonment in Maiduguri.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony at the Officer’s Mess, Lagbaja urged the Nigerian Army and their families to renew their commitment to providing security for the country, assuring that their sacrifices will not go in vain.
The COAS, who is marking his one year in office, commended the sacrifices of troops who have lost their lives in the fight against terrorism and insurgency in the North-East region.
He acknowledged the current economic challenges but emphasized the Army’s resolve to ensure the comfort and effectiveness of its personnel.
Lagbaja expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chief of Defense Staff, and the Minister of Defense for their support in providing an enabling environment for the success of ongoing operations.
The COAS urged Nigerians to continue cooperating with the army by providing useful information to ensure security in the country.
The commissioning ceremony and Sallah luncheon with troops of Operation Hadin Kai North-East served as a morale booster, showcasing the Nigerian Army’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure and capabilities.
In his remarks, theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Maj-Gen Waidi Shuaibu, vowed to defeat the Boko Haram insurgency, bringing an end to the long-standing terrorists’ threat.
Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Div, Abubakar Haruna, revealed that the army is making significant progress in its campaign against Boko Haram insurgents, achieving notable successes in the Sambisa Forest and Chad Basin areas.
He reiterated the commitment of troops to taking the fight to the hideouts of terrorists and ending the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.
