Igbinedion University Okada Inaugurates Covid-19 Marshal team as School Resumes

The Management of Igbinedion University Okada has inaugurated its newly established Covid-19 Marshal team as part of the protocol precautionary tactics for the prevention of community transmission of Covid-19 on campus the team is to enforce compliance with the University laid down Covid-19 protocol in line with the NCDC guidelines and NUC directives on resumption of academic activities in Nigerian Universities.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye PhD., FAS while inaugurating the Marshals on Saturday 3rd October 2020 charged them to be conscientious and to reciprocate the huge confidence that Students, Parents and Guardians have invested in the University Management. He urged them to adopt a human-face approach and be extremely professional in the discharge of their duties.

The University had announced its phased resumption beginning with postgraduate students and undergraduate students in the exiting classes who were already arriving the University residential campus. He also disclosed that the 200/300/400 and 500 level classes would resume on the 24th of October, 2020 while the newly admitted students would resume on 7th of November, 2020.

Prof. Ezemonye further urged members of the various committees set up by the University for the Reopening Exercise to uphold the confidence reposed in them by the University management and be diligent in the discharge of their duties.

The Covid-19 Marshalls who were seen adorned in a special branded jacket immediately swung into action to orientate the returning students on the laid down protocol in the University including the new hostel/classroom, transportation and other rules/guidelines concerning social life on campus.

On arrival at the gate of the residential campus of the University, the returning students were compelled to go through protocols including temperature check, passing them and their luggage through the IUO-made disinfection tunnel, wearing of face masks and use of sanitizers as laid down by the NCDC.

Commenting on the smooth running of the resumption exercise, the Chairman of the Medical Team on the Guidelines for resumption amidst Covid-19, Dr. Benedict Benebo expressed satisfaction at the level of compliance to the Covid-19 regulation by the students. He further hinted that it was obvious that the students were happy to be back to school after six months of lockdown

Meanwhile, the University management had before now conducted a comprehensive environmental decontamination and cleaning of all hostels, classrooms, auditoriums, laboratories, central library and public facilities such as shuttle buses, shuttle cabs among others in preparation for the return of students to campus.
