As the Edo State governorship election approaches, Senator Ehigie Uzamere has thrown his support behind the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, praising his qualifications and campaign strategy.
Uzamere, a notable figure in Edo politics, known for his re-election to the Senate in 2011 on two different party platforms, believes Ighodalo is the best candidate among the top contenders.
In an interview with Saturday Vanguard, Uzamere highlighted Ighodalo’s rich background, intelligence, and humble nature as key reasons for his endorsement, stating that Ighodalo’s focus on economic issues makes him the right choice for Edo at this critical time.
He also emphasized the importance of zoning in the state, asserting that it is Edo Central’s turn to produce the next governor after Edo South’s eight-year term.
Comparing Ighodalo to his rivals, Uzamere acknowledged that the Labour Party’s candidate, Olumide, is highly qualified but argued that it is not his time. As for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Uzamere questioned his readiness and criticized the APC for lacking a strong contender in the race.
Senator Uzamere also took aim at former governor Adams Oshiomhole, who is leading the APC’s campaign. He accused Oshiomhole of overstepping his bounds and insulting prominent figures in Edo South. Uzamere was particularly critical of Oshiomhole’s comments about the Obaseki family, calling them “embarrassing” and urging Nigerian women to stand against such remarks.
In his final message to voters, Uzamere urged the people of Edo South to support Asue Ighodalo, whom he believes is the best candidate to continue the work of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
