Delta State Launch Renewable Energy Roadmap Project, By Norbert Fidelis

IT was a dream come true for Deltans and other stakeholders involved as the Renewable Energy Roadmap Project was finally launched at the Spring Hills Hotel , Asaba on Tuesday.

Speaking at the event, the country director of Heinrick Boll Stiftung who are one of the sponsors, Mr. Jochen Lucksheiter, welcomed everybody to the event and said Renewable Energy is to improve the Energy supply in the country suggesting that the State should go beyond oil by adopting Renewable Energy. He said the project will provide job for Deltans and bring about a new saying ” Expect Power Always”

Also, the Commissioner For Transport, Chief Mike Okah, thanked the management of Clean Tech Hub, who are the consultant of the project for bringing it to Delta State and urged them to look into his ministry for the possibility of producing Solar And Electric powered tricycles, stating that petrol is out of reach for the ordinary man.

Meanwhile, in his keynote address, Mr. Blessing Edewor who is the Permanent Secretary of the Min. Of Energy has stressed the need to raise a source that will support the national grid and said Renewable Energy is the answer to that adding that it will serve the underserved and those that are not served from the national grid as well as boost the social and economic development of the State.

Also, Mr. David Otu who is a representative of the Rural Development Agency (REA) said electricity has left the exclusive list and State Govt. now have their own power to build and have their grid. He maintained that electricity supply from the national grid is a long chain with bottlenecks , but with Renewable Energy, the bottlenecks are removed and made room for easy access to electricity . He noted that the Clean Tech Hub project is a laudable project as the national grid does not have enough electricity to transmit to the nation

The Co Founder and CEO of Clean Tech Hub, Mrs. Ifeoma Malo, said the project has come a long way since 2020 and said they will work with the Ministry Of Energy, which is the parent Min. To implement and achieve the project. She thanked the various agencies and stakeholders for their effort in ensuring that the project launch sees the light of the day

Other speakers at the event are, Dr. Mrs. Minnie Oseji, who is the Commissioner For Environment and said that pilot projects should be established for people to see the result the project. Engr. Joshua Egube, who is a retired Director from the Min of Works and Chief Emmanuel Okuti who is a representative of the Open Govt. Partnership

At the end of the programme there was a panel discussion topic where the commissioners of the various ministries involved were asked some questions on how they hope to implement the project in their various ministries

Delta State has chosen five focal points to implement the project which are , Education, Health, Transport, ICT and Security

The objective of the project is to launch Renewable Energy Roadmap in Delta State and formally hand over the document to the Delta State Government.
