A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of a 27-year-old man, Adekunle Ogundeji, in a correctional centre after pleading guilty to stealing a bag of rice, valued at N50,000.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ogundeji was arraigned on a two-count charge of felony and stealing.
The Chief Magistrate, N.A. Layeni, adjourned the case till May 25 for fact and sentence.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Edet Ekpo, told the court that Ogundeji committed the offences on April 21 at about 2 p.m. at Oke Store, Badagry roundabout, Lagos.
Ekpo said that Ogundeji unlawfully entered the warehouse with the intent to commit felony to wit: stealing.
“He stole one bag of rice, valued at N50,000, belonging to one Temitope Ashim, who is the complainant,” the prosecution counsel said.
The offences, according to him, contravene the provisions of Sections 308 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
