THE Federal Government has been advised to start withdrawing some security officials attached to Very Important Persons across the country and deploy them to provide maximum security for the officials and facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission at the forthcoming general elections.
The leader of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, Prophet Adegboyega Alao, made this known on Monday during a press briefing heralding the church’s annual general conference.
The cleric noted that this was necessary following the recent attack on INEC offices in some parts of the country.
He said, “I want to emphasise that the government must increase the security deployed to protect INEC facilities in all the 774 local governments in the country.
“They will provide maximum security for the INEC officials and all the people who play important roles in the forthcoming election.
“The government should also withdraw the unnecessarily large number of policemen attached to VIPs. Nigerians will not take any excuse if any of the INEC offices is attacked again. This election must hold.”
The cleric said the government had continued to be unconcerned about the country’s precarious situation and acted as if everything was well in the country.
He urged the government to stop keeping Nigerians in suspense about the cause of fuel scarcity and hike in pump prices, adding that Nigerians deserve to know if the government has removed subsidy and the cause of the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.
According to him, it is unfortunate that as one of the leading oil-producing countries in the world, Nigeria has no functioning refinery and spends huge foreign exchange on fuel importation.
He said, “This has led to inflation and an increase in the unemployment rate. The power supply has remained epileptic with factories finding it difficult to operate in Nigeria. Our leaders should know that Nigerians deserve better than this.”
He said the church conference, which begins on Thursday with the theme, “Leadership: Opportunity Leading with Responsibility,” will afford the leaders and members to review their activities in the last one year and chat about a way forward, especially on the Moses Orimolade University, which is nearing completion.
