Police Arrest Killer Of UNIBEN Graduate

THE operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested the suspected killer of a fresh graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Glory Adekolure.

The 22-year-old female graduate was raped to death in Edo State.

The late student’s brother, in a post on X, said that Adekolure was beaten, raped, and killed while she was on her way back home from the university.

He stated that the deceased was processing her clearance when she was raped to death by unknown assailants in the Iyowa area of Benin, the Edo State capital, on June 13, 2024.

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki later ordered the Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, to arrest the killers of the UNIBEN graduate within seven days.

On Friday, June 28, Adegboye said the suspected killer was apprehended in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The police commissioner, in an interview with Channels Television, added that the suspect confessed to killing Adekolure and at least eight other young women.

Adegboye said: “I am happy to inform the good people of Edo State and the good people of Nigeria that the killer of Glory Adekolure, a 22-year-old final year Chemistry student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has been apprehended.

“He was apprehended in Asaba, Delta State. After killing Glory, he ran away. He was aware we were trailing him and due to the painstaking investigations of our anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit, he was arrested and confessed not only to the killing of Glory Adekolure but to the killing of eight other similar ladies.”

He disclosed that the suspect had not been paraded yet, adding that police were still investigating the incident.
