THE 14 candidates vying for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential ticket in next year’s election will present themselves for assessment today in Abuja.
This comes as Governor Nyesom Wike and Atiku Abubakar, the two leading candidates for the party’s presidential ticket, are locked in a fierce battle.
Meanwhile, the fate of the aspirants will be decided by 811 ad hoc delegates of the party, totaling 774 delegates, one for each LGA, who were elected at the party’s LG congresses weeks ago.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike are vying for the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential ticket in Abuja. As delegates decide who will pick the crucial presidential ticket today, the battle is now about whose pocket is fatter.
According to SaharaReporters, each delegate at the special convention was given a bribe of over $50,000 to sway their votes in favor of specific candidates.
In the ongoing convention, 811 delegates are expected to decide the fate of the PDP presidential candidates.
The party’s 811 delegates are made up of one national delegate elected from each of the 774 local government areas and one special delegate elected from among people with disabilities in each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
On Saturday, top sources told SaharaReporters that Atiku, Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal were competing for thousands of dollars in delegates, with the highest bidder winning.
“For the time being, each of the PDP delegates has been given $50,000; Wike has been given $15,000, Atiku has been given 20,000 dollars, Saraki has been given 10,000 dollars, and Tambuwal has been given 10,000 dollars,” one of the sources said.
