Patami: The Excesses Of Religious Indoctrination

By Dele Elempe
I HAVE had to take a different perspective look on the issue of Dr Isa Patami and his emotive temper during his call for jihad and support for terrorist groups around the world. Without trying to assuage my own feeling of his guilt, I must say though, with reference to my proposed message to our state assembly on the occasion of my birthday recently, that there should be a time in the life of a child when the attachments of religion and it’s narratives be minimalised if it cannot be totally and completely removed. The child should be instructed on elementary history, languages, morals, law and other forms of learning that will prepare him for his second phase of learning, which is the secondary school. Let religion be at his own choosing when he comes of legal age, just as marriage is.
Patami might just be a victim of radical and homicidal ideologies like other ideologues who have been inculcated and fed with uncompromising dogmas to the festering point of fanatism. Just like a Christian General Overseer, GO, who whips his adherents with dangerous rethorics about being guinea pigs if they lay themselves down for heretics and infidels to be inoculated against the Coronavirus vaccine. So these adherents go about championing the cause that could make several people loose their lives to unguided and unscientific statements. I remember those members who call themselves anti-abortionist standing on the existing protocol in the old testament ‘though shall not kill,’  killing abortion doctors and patients for the mere reason of flaunting the law.
Some are also found in political rethorics. The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has also whipped such sentiments about the associated Conspiracy Theories of the Covid 19 that made the citizens to be less careful about the spread, today, they die in great installations and quickly moved to shallow graves.
What kind of mind do you expect exactly from a child at an early age of 7 or so who is forced to learn how to recite the Hadith or the entire Koran? How do you expect a child to have mind of his own when he is placed under the impression that nothing else is acceptable apart from that which the Bible teaches? Their minds are suppressed to submission. Inquiry is replaced by dogmas, debate is replaced by order… ecetera ecetera. Religion is not the problem as it seem, but the by products of it’s instructions as interpreted by some who arrogate to themselves that they alone understand the instructions contained in the holy books.
So mother religion must come to the rescue as it has set a lot of fanatics loose. Of all humans, the fanatical mind is the most dangerous, expecially those who’s taste for righteousness can only be assuaged by homicidal hubris. And there is no social regulatory mechanism ones the fanatic is let loose upon the world. We must therefore take another look at what must have shaped Isa Patami and others to become the monsters they have become…there lies the solution.
