Owo Massacre Suspects Arrested, Says Olowo; As Restive Crowd Besiege Palace Of Monarch

THE Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, has announced to the restive people of his kingdom that those who attacked St Francis Catholic Church in Owo last Sunday, had been arrested.

The royal father was captured in a trending amateur video showing a crowd protesting in and around the premises of the palace.

One of them could be heard saying: “They want to take them (suspects) to Akure. The youths are angry.”

Gunmen had, last Sunday, committed mass murder in the Catholic Cathedral at Owaluwa Street that shares a fence with the Oalace of the Olowo of Owo.

Governor of Ondo State, who is also an indigene of Owo, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, had confirmed that 127 casualties were recorded in the attack.

He said 40 were dead while the remaining sustained varied degrees of injuries and were admitted into many hospitals in the town for treatment.

Women and children were among of the casualties.

The Police had confirmed that some of the assailants disguised as congregants and fired shots from AK-47 rifles.

The gunmen had also reportedly thrown dynamites in the church which exploded and caused maximum damage to worshippers and the church building.

The security agencies also announced that three unexploded Improvised Explosive Device at the scene (IEDs) were recovered.
