LESS than a month before the Edo State Governorship election slated for September 21st, 2024, Senator Adams Oshiomhole has stoked another raging fire. He accused Mr. Osarodion Ogie, Esq., of making Edo State Government House his permanent abode. Oshiomhole, 75, sparked the controversy against Ogie, who is 64 years old. Clearly, Oshiomhole is more than a decade older than Ogie.
Oshiomhole’s accusation against the choice of Osarodion Ogie as the deputy governorship candidate under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is another misdirected attack that has elicited counter-accusations against Oshiomhole himself. It doesn’t need retelling that Oshiomhole is the least qualified individual to make this dumb accusation against one of the most durable, trusted and dependable politicians that remained an intrepid tribune of politics with a human face.
Oshiomhole’s own dubious political career spans over two decades — including 8 years as Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) President, 8 years as Edo State Governor, — 2 years as All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman. He’s currently serving as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a four-year term.
In contrast, Ogie served as Secretary to the Edo State Government for 8 years, Chief of Staff to Oshiomhole for 4 years, and Commissioner for Works for 4 years. Critics argue that Oshiomhole’s accusations against Ogie are hypocritical, given his own extensive tenure in various government positions.
Moreover, Oshiomhole’s campaign for Senator Monday Okpevbolo lacks issue-based debate on developing Edo State or addressing the welfare of the downtrodden. This controversy has raised questions about Oshiomhole’s motivations and whether his campaign is a veiled attempt to secure a second senatorial term for himself.
The tragedy with Oshiomhole’s politicking has been his incapacitation to highlight the importance of quality leadership, long-term vision, and prioritizing the welfare of citizens over his personal gain. As a student of power, Oshiomhole is penchantly obsessed with the perks of office, grand corruption, barefaced hypocrisy and the rawness of absolute power deployed. The way he dehumanized a poor widow in the state whom he told to “go and die”.
Edo people would have expected Oshiomhole to hazard thoughts and actions needed for a successful and prosperous state, having taken the center stage and preventing Monday Okpevhbolo from communicating with the Edo electorates. It’s time to remind Oshiomhole that Edo needs a competent and exemplary governorship candidate like Dr. Asue Ighodalo, whose manifesto is focused on the well-being of citizens with a mandate to implement long-term development plans.
The moral and didactic lesson for Adams Oshiomhole is clearly deducible from the analysis above. As Oshiomhole points one finger from his leprous arm to Barrister Osarodion Ogie — the remaining four menacingly terrorises his soul and dubious self — for being a victim of his own emotional intelligence!
