Nigerians In Diaspora Slam Edo State Government For Unleashing Its Thugs Code-Named PUWOV On Dr. Obayuwana, Civil Rights Activists On Protest

NIGERIANS in the diaspora have called on Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State to reign in his ravening dogs parading themseves as Public Works Vulunteers (PUWOV) officials who have made it a point of duty, attacking civil rights groups each time they protest against his inhuman policy in the state. The warning was extended to the Federal Governmrnent of Nigeria to desist from attacking protesters demanding for good governance across the country.
“We, Nigerians In Diaspora, especially, in the United States of America, have heard and read, with heart-aches,
about the dastardly attack on very peaceful protest and protesters, like Dr. Osagie Obayuwana.
“To say the least, Osagie Obayuwana, remains a very leveled- headed, un prideful, humble, steadfast and one of the foremost, unwavering, unapologetic human civil rights defenders, in Nigeria of modern times a self- respecting legal luminary, outstanding legal practitioner/ professional, and currently President of CHDR, a group that has consistently  defended Democracy/democratic rights, in Nigeria and for fellow Nigerian people, at the cost of his life and  immediate family.
“What a total disrespect to sanity, decency and soulful  humility. Such an unprovoked attack, is not only unwelcomingly  unacceptable, by truly decent and very resolute supporters of democracy in Nigeria and across the world, it is a misplaced, unreasonable demonstration of the highest order of shamelessness by some of the PUWOV officials.
“How dare these officials behaved, in such very base manners. Were they suffering from psychotic symptoms of hallucinations, paranoia and delusions!!!! Therapies are recommended.
“Let these PUWOV officials be told, in the most directly- unequivocal terms, that this staged attack on innocent, peaceful protesters, is a show of mental laziness, and disrespect of the civil and human rights of well-meaning citizens, on their fatherland. The protesters have constitutional rights to peacefully air their displeasures and disagreements, without being attacked, injured and humiliated by PUVOC official.
“Nigerian people, yesterday and today, are no respecters of apartheid mentality and would not accept any apartheid-like intimidations, without appropriate social resistance. They never did in our past history, never will do today and tomorrow. Let these attackers get that straight in their psyche now and forever. Get it, get it!!!
“They caustion the Edo State Government thugs to stop attacking Dr. Osagie Obayuwana and other peaceful protesters in the Edo State and elsewhere in the nation. The International Civil and Human Rights Bodies, are strictly monitoring all these shameful organizational, state and national abuses being meted out to the already economically-stressed workers on various strata of the Nigerian society. The senseless, wantom and  intimidations have to stop”, the statement reads.
