More Knocks For FG, Malami Over Indictment Of Igboho, Kanu

  • IPOB leader’s lawyer says ‘spreading false narrative won’t work’

  • Ilana Omo Oodua brands AG’s claims outrageous

The federal government and the Attorney General of the Federation/Justice Minister Abubakar Malami (SAN) came under more attacks yesterday following their indictment of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu and the Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo alias Igboho for alleged links with terrorism.

Kanu’s lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, declared that spreading false narratives against his client would fail while the amalgam group for all Yoruba self-determination groups – Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO) – dismissed the allegations against Igboho as lacking substance.

Malami, at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, had alleged that Kanu, through the Eastern Security Network, was responsible for numerous murders in the Southeast and other criminal activities in some parts of the country.

The minister had also claimed that Igboho had financial dealings with some people suggestive of sponsoring terrorism and that his major financier is a member of the National Assembly.

However, Ejiofor in a statement on his Facebook wall yesterday said there was nothing to the FG’s allegations against Kanu and that his legal team would prove that in court at the appropriate time.

His words: ”There is no cause for alarm umuchukwu Okike Abiama. Do not panic at all.

“I may not wish to dignify their trending falsehood by directly responding to it but it is a bad strategy, already dead on arrival. We saw it coming!

“After a robust outing of 21st October, and strong objection raised to the empty charge, the narratives changed.

Note that the media has been awashed with this false narrative right from the very first day our client was extraordinarily renditioned to Nigeria, even before the amended seven charges were filed twice.

“Their seven counts were amended twice upon being served with our Preliminary Objection. Remember that the facts they substantially relied upon in their purported amended charge, dwelt much on this speculation as you saw in their press statement.

“In all, I implore you all to remain calm, peaceful and focused, your eyes should always be on the ball, because we will demystify them only in law court. They cannot place something on nothing and expect it to stand, it must fail woefully!

“Please, note that your prayers have been impacting so much, it cannot be taken for granted at all. Please do not relent, Umuchineke.

“We believe in the ability of this honourable court to do justice to all manner of men, and that justice must not only be done in our case but SHALL manifestly be seen to have been done.

“Ignore their media propaganda, please, because Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has not committed any offence known to law. He is a POLITICAL PRISONER, and SHALL be out soon, Our formidable legal team will leave no stone unturned to see it happen soon.”

You’re bullying truth, IOO tells Malami

Reacting, in a separate statement on the allegations against Igboho by the federal government, the amalgam group for all Yoruba self-determination groups – Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO)- said the claims against the Yoruba nation activist were nothing short of bullying the truth.

Government, according to the spokesman for the group Maxwell Adeleye, was “now chasing shadows, bullying the truth, and making an inconsistent attempt to tarnish a noble struggle of the Yoruba people.”

He said: “There was no where in the statement where Ighoho was directly or indirectly linked to terrorism. We only read that Ighoho transfered the sum of twelve million, seven hundred and fifty thousand Naira only to one Abdullahi Usman who is a friend of someone who is now an indicted promoter of terrorism.

“We are surprised how that has now become a crime? Was there any linkage between Ighoho and the original indicted promoter of terrorism? What was the money Igboho paid Abdullahi Usman meant for? Is Ighoho now the one funding Terrorism in the North? Even if there was an association between the real indicted promoter of terrorism and Ighoho which the Malami statement did not say, was it legitimate or was it on terrorism?

“FG also accused an invincible lawmaker of sponsoring Igboho and the struggle for Self-Determination in Yoruba Land. The transactions between Igboho and the Federal Lawmaker were dated back to 2013. That was hilarious and absolutely inconsistent. Was there a struggle for Self-Determination In 2013?

“For instance, we started the struggle for Self-Determination in 2019, but the Nigerian Government is labelling the transactions between Igboho, a Political Figure and Freedom Fighter and an unknown Political Figure dated back to 2013 as funds for promotion of Yoruba Nation Struggle for Self-Determination. Igboho is a renowned Automobile Dealer. So, anyone could buy Cars from him.

“We are, however, glad that the Nigerian Government is now displaying heavy shallowness and emptiness before the world while attempting to bully and tarnish a just and constitutional agenda that has been declared noble and legal by a Court of Competent Jurisdiction which the Government has not appealed against.

“The most outrageous part of the accusations against Igboho was stating that Igboho is sponsoring terrorism because he transferred the sum of 12million Naira to a friend of an indicted promoter of terrorism.

“To us in IOO, the accusations against Igboho are ridiculous, cruel, petty, irresponsible and childish. The Nigerian Government is now frustrated having lost the battle against the agitations for Self-Determination, both in the courts of law and public opinion, hence, resorted to blackmail and media bullying.

“Just today, the remaining two arrested aides of Igboho in detention since July were released by the DSS on Court Order.

“Therefore, the Yoruba people are anxiously waiting to know the invincible Federal Lawmaker accused by the Fulani-controlled Nigerian Government of supporting Igboho so that we can celebrate him or her as a true son or daughter of the soil for associating with a just and noble cause.

“Our advice to Malami is to use his energy towards ensuring that the current 1999 Constitution of Nigeria is abolished and a referendum is conducted so that the indigenous people of the South and Middle-Belt can decide on their nationhood and sovereignty rather than working against posterity and propelling a bad history for himself.”

Malami who was silent on the identity of the federal lawmaker alleged to be the major sponsor of Igboho, said a report by a committee constituted by the Federal Government also revealed that Igboho allegedly received funding from a firm, Abbai Bako and Sons, which is  being probed for allegations of  terrorism financing activities.

According to the minister, the Presidential Ad-hoc Committee set up after the re-arrest of the IPOB leader found that Sunday Igboho is a director and signatory to Adesun International Concept Limited, registered on 23rd April, 2010.

He said:”Adesun International Concept Limited also has Oladele Oyetunji and Aderopo Adeyemo as directors. Sunday Igboho is linked to 43 bank accounts in 9 banks.

“The major financier of the fugitive and separatists was found to be a Federal Law Maker in the National Assembly.

“A total sum of N127,145,000.00 was received by Igboho from his financiers between 22nd October, 2013 and 28th September, 2020 through Adesun International Concept Ltd accounts.

“A total sum of N273,198,200.00 transaction outflows was recorded from Sunday Igboho’s account between 15th March, 2013 and 11th March, 2021.

Investigation reveals that Adesun International Concept Ltd (belonging to Igboho) transferred the sum of N12,750,000 to Abbal Bako & Sons.

“The report found connections of financial transactions between Adesun International Concept Ltd (belonging to Igboho) and some construction companies and businesses among others.”

He alleged that Kanu took advantage of the 2020 EndSARS protest to destroy property and killed individuals, particularly security personnel.

“Despite the proscription of IPOB by the Federal Government, Nnamdi Kanu continued the subversive campaign, instigating and inciting broadcasts to direct members of the IPOB to launch attacks on the government.

Several groups had earlier criticized the government over the claims.
