Long Vacation: GOC 7Div Organizes Clinic Scrabble For Youths To Curb Brain Drain

The General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno state, Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna has organized a Clinic Scrabble for hundreds of youths who are currently on a long vacation.
This aimed at addressing the prevalence of all forms of social vices amongst youths across the country, which calls for concerted efforts amongst parents, religious bodies, organisations, governments agencies and other stakeholders in the society to stem the tide.
In his address on Tuesday, General Haruna said, “The ugly trend of social vices in the society is partly traceable to inadequate engagement of youths in activities that is capable of tasking their brain for productive contributions in the society.
“It is based on this premix that the idea to organise this Scrabble Clinic especially during the current long vacation was conceived. Having consulted widely with specialists, it was considered a worthwhile exercise for youths as it is educative in nature.
“Scrabble is an amazing brain workout that teaches players of all ages to focus on the process, rather than the result. This is because in life, not everything goes your way, but having a consistent approach and a good attitude in everything you do will produce the best results in the end.
” As we all know that young brains like yours are primed for learning, Scrabble is a great way to practice a diverse array of skill. Additionally,
Scrabble has plenty of maths involved, adding and multiplying the scores of your plays and keeping score is just the start.
” I urge therefore you to keep learning, keep studying and keep practicing with the scrabble boards which will be made available at your youth centre immediately after this event”. He stated.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Acting Director 7Div Education Services, Lt. Col. S. A Awe, appreciated the General Officer Commanding 7 Division Nigerian Army, Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force (NE) OP HADIN KAI for organizing the memorable event, which he said, is geared towards engaging Barracks youths in meaningful activity that will have a positive influence on their lives.
“This is another testament to reflect the GOC’s love and interest in the development of Barracks youths. An idle hand they say, is the devil’s workshop, this positive investment by the GOC is targeted at engaging Barracks Youths with meaningful activities which is
capable of expanding their vocabularies and improving their literacy skills during this current long vacation”. Lt. Col. Awe stated.
