Killings: Edo Activist Advocates Retraining Of Police Operatives Over Unprofessional Conduct

FREEPRESS – Edo based human right activist and founder One Love , Patrick Eholor, on Thursday regretted what he described as unprofessional conduct among some operatives of Nigeria Police force and called for proper training and retraining of its personnel following the killings of defenceless and unarmed Nigerians by some of it men.

Eholor, however bemoaned the working condition of men of the Nigerian Police and demanded for total overhaul and reform of the force to enable it live up to it responsibility of protecting lives and properties of citizens.

He spoke to newsmen in Benin City, Edo state yesterday while fielding questions on the spate of insecurity in Nigeria.

He said: “We need to reform and overhaul the Police force. Most of the police personnel we today don’t have the requisite training and competence for the job.

What inspires some of our local police is what they can get at road blocks. With untrained police everywhere we are in big problem. Every Inspector general of police will come and ban road blocks but roads blocks are everywhere”.

“With large numbers of unemployed and angry youths Nigeria may become a banana republic if something urgent is not done.

The senseless killing must stop. It is time we admit that we have insecurity problem and that is the only way we can begin to address it.”

“Government must begin to show and demonstrate that the lives of Nigerians matters by ensuring that lives and properties are protected at all time.

I just hope that this menace of insecurity is cut as soon as possible”. He added.
