A NEW restaurant in Nairobi, Kenya, is creating quite a stir—not just for its food, but for its futuristic approach to service.
Nestled in the vibrant Kileleshwa neighbourhood, Robot Cafe is pioneering a new era in hospitality, thanks to its trio of robot servers—the first of their kind in Kenya and East Africa. These AI-driven servers are changing the way customers experience dining, adding a unique blend of technology and tradition.
Among the robotic team is Nadia, a standout server who gracefully navigates the dining area, delivering orders with precision and efficiency. Equipped with advanced AI and self-driving technology, Nadia ensures each meal reaches the right table without a hitch.
‘Our goal was to craft an unforgettable dining experience that marries technology with top-notch service,’ explained John Kariuki Mwangi, the cafe’s manager. ‘The robot servers have streamlined our operations, allowing our human staff to focus on creating connections with our customers,’ he told Anadolu news agency.
Customers like Emily Njoroge are enthralled by the futuristic setup. ‘It’s like stepping into a sci-fi movie,’ she remarked, watching the robots glide across the room. ‘It’s amazing to see how effortlessly they handle everything.’

Grace Waweru, a waitress at the cafe, shared her initial doubts but now sees the robots as valuable teammates. ‘At first, it felt like our jobs were threatened, but now I realise they help us during busy times, allowing me to spend more time with customers,’ she told Anadolu.
Manager Mwangi reassures that the robots are there to enhance, not replace, the human touch that is vital to hospitality. ‘This technology has the potential to revolutionize dining, but it’s not about removing the human element—it’s about improving efficiency and service. The robots are just the beginning of what we hope will be a continuous journey of innovation.’
