Chief Justice Koome confirmed Kivuti’s death in a post on the social media platform X, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

‘Monica Kivuti, Principal Magistrate at Makadara Law Courts, has lost the fight against the extensive injuries sustained during an open gun attack in court,’ Koome stated. ‘The judiciary family stands in solidarity during this deeply traumatic time and calls for sensitivity and compassion as we share in grief.’

During the incident, three officers were also injured, though Koome did not provide updates on their conditions.

The police officer’s wife had requested release on bail after pleading guilty to obtaining KSh2.9 million ($22,700) by false pretences, according to a police report.
