RWANDAN President Paul Kagame has re-appointed Edouard Ngirente as the country’s prime minister, the president’s office confirmed on Tuesday. The decision comes just days after Kagame’s inauguration for another five-year term in office.
Ngirente, an economist by profession, has been a key figure in Rwanda’s government since his initial appointment as prime minister in August 2017. Before assuming this role, Ngirente worked with the World Bank Group in Washington, DC, where he served as a senior advisor to the executive director responsible for African countries.
In addition to his international experience, Ngirente has held various positions within Rwanda’s Ministry of Finance, further cementing his expertise in economic matters. The 51-year-old leader holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL) in Belgium, showcasing his strong academic background.
With this reappointment, Ngirente is expected to play a crucial role in forming a new Cabinet alongside President Kagame, as they continue to steer Rwanda’s development agenda in the coming years.
