THE Kano Islamic Movement under the leadership of Sheikh Ibrahim Yaqub El -Zakzaki said it will commence the Annual Arba’een Procession on Saturday a religious practice being conducted on the 20th day of Safar the 2nd Month of Islamic Calendar marking the 40th day of the murder of Imam Hussein (AS) . grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Spokesman of the group Dr Dauda Nalado a Senior lecturer with the Bayero University Kano, made the disclosure on Thursday while addressing Newsmen at the NUJ Press Centre on the arrangements and preparedness of the group to embark on the trek from Kano to undisclosed destination along Zaria road this coming Saturaday.
He said one of the purpose of Arba’een is to recall and commemorate the trials and tribulations faced by the house hold of the prophet (SAW).
According to Dr Nalado the Arbeen mourners in places like Iraq have since started trekking from different places to the tomb of Imam Hussein at Karbala famous among which is Najaf to Karbala approximately one hundred kilo metres.
He said muslims and non muslims from all works of life and from all corners of the globe participated in the trek.
” Arbaeen gathering is now the largest in the world and it is always in the increase year in year out”
Dr Nalado stated that the love being expressed to Imam Hussein by the mourners and the sacrifice rendered by the people of irag to them are indicative of what humanity is in dire need of.
” We are going to also observed and mourned over the tyranny done to the grandson of the prophet and we are not going leave any stone unturn in making our position clear to everyone as far this years procession is concerned
