Industrial Research Institute Train Youths On Preservation Of Bean Flour

THE Federal Industrial Research Institute, Oshodi (FIIRO), has trained youths on beans flour production and preservation, to discourage the use of chemicals in beans preservation.
The Federal Industrial Research Institute Northwest Zonal Coordinator, Mr Badamasi Mukhtar-Abdulhadi, unveiled the training on Thursday in Kano.
He said that project tagged: “Awareness creation and demonstration on bean flour production and preservation”, was under the techno entrepreneurship programme of the institute.
“We are sensitising the public that there is another way of conserving beans instead of using chemicals that are poisonous to human beings.
“We can make beans to flour and preserve the flour, by so doing, you are adding value to beans.
“By adding value to beans, its price will increase. And when processed, the final product will be a powdered beans, is easy to transport it abroad,” he said.
He explained that beans flour can be used to make different types of food.
The coordinator said that there were machines specifically meant for that purpose.
“The first thing you do is to remove the beans cover, the beans will then be processed into powder,” he said.
He noted that 50 participants selected from the Northwest states, would benefit from the training.
Mukhtar-Abdulhadi said that the trainees would be linked to financial institutions, where they could be supported to own machines for beans processing.
Some of the participants interviewed, expressed delight over the training.
Habiba Umar said that the training would assist them to become entrepreneurs and employers of labour.
