I Did Not Give 25 million Naira To APC, Labour Party Leaderships, Says Elizabeth Ativie

EX- Speaker in Edo State House of Assembly- Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Ativie has debunked the rumour that she gave the leaderships of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo State chapter, and the Labour Party the sum of 25 million naira each in order to influence the parties’ House of Representatives nomination for  Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency in  the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Rt. Hon. Ativie disclosed this during a media parley in Benin City. She said giving out money because of party’s nomination, is tantamount to her kind of person. She described it as a lie purported by the APC in order to disdain her personality. She said she left the APC because there was no internal democracy.

“I did not participate in APC Primaries. They were doing adoption of candidate instead of conducting primary election. So there was no primaries I partcipated in Edo APC. No one woman benefited in Aisha Buhari’s intervention in Edo State. The intervention was geared towards giving women space to realize their political ambition.

“At this time, Labour Party was shopping for candidates and they discovered me. I passed through the due process.

“I left APC because it was cash and carry and I went to where they don’t give cash to contest.

I want to commend the Labour Party for not doing cash and carry. I really impressed. I have actually come to add value to the party and by the grace of God, Labour Party will win Edo State”, the liberal feminist said.

when asked about the none availability of political space for Edo women, Rt. Hon. Ativie said thus:

“I am worried that we don’t have the number of women we expected to participate in politics. There must be a deliberate attempt by political parties to create a space for women to occupy.

“I fought for justice for women, that is one other reason why I quitted the APC. APC don’t have space for women at all. That is unacceptable and I cannot be in that environment being an activist.

“We will get there one day. Ana women in 1929 rioted and got answer. I will always ensure that the narrative change”.

Concerning some of the protest against her candidacy of the Labour Party, the Edo ex-Speaker has this to say:

“Those protesting are APC members claiming to be in Labour Party. In few days time, you will receive a statement from the Party. Labour Party is now in the process of separating the wheat from the shaft. There are processes to be nominated and I passed through them all”.
