Gombe State PDP Governorship Aspirant Dr Gimba Ya ‘u Kumo Pioneers ‘Gombe First Rescue Agenda’
Dr Gimba Ya ‘u Kumo OON who encapsulated the ‘Gombe State Rescue Agenda’ for his 2023 Governorship ambition spoke with Trojan.com.ng correspondent in Abuja on his mission and vision for the state.
Excerpts:
Gombe State is in dare need of a Governor to reposition the state for the better in all facets, What can you do differently from what Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of the APC is doing presently?
Our objectives in terms of human capital development for the state includes the implementation of minimum wage, promotion and payment of outstanding gratuities to civil servants and retirees respectively.
We will ensure Re-industrialization of the state, reactivation of moribund industries and massive support for Small and Medium Enterprises as well as infrastructure development of neglected rural areas.
Nigerians and people of Gombe State are asking for change of strategy to tackle the debilitating impact of insurgency under the watch of APC governments across board, how do you intend to change the narrative as PDP Governor if elected?
On the issue of security challenges, We will always be resolute and proactive to stop banditry and end terrorism and secure the lives and properties of the people by consistent and technical support for all security agencies located in the state. we would work round to collaborate with all security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders and youth organizations to establish a framework for the security architecture ranging from the grassroot, in which we will have a working security council under each and every district head in the state through collaboration with our existing security agencies.
How do you hope to address the problem of high rate of illiteracy in the State and the Almajiri system that has become recruitment platform for Boko Haram, ISWAP and bandits alike?
Education will be our main area of concern, we have a plans which includes the cancellation of open and hidden fees as well as sundry charges at primary and secondary levels in our public schools in order to reduce the number of out of school children in the state. we will be committed in providing all it requires to sanitize our educational sector and equip our Teachers with adequate skills and experience while providing logistics and technical gadgets that will aid teaching and learning process for the betterment of our present and future generations.
However, On Almajiri school system, we have adequate plans to monitor, support and transform their school system. All Almajiri school would be registered with the government and all the bio-data of each and every student would be captured so as no single Almajiri student would be coming and going without an identity. A board would be established to take care of this Almajiri matters, and regular workshop would be provided for the Almajiri school heads in order to create awareness and embrace the modern system of learning in all Almajiri schools in the state.
You have a track record as a celebrated financial expert and manager of men and resources, what’s your economic blueprint for Gombe State regarding job creation?
On Job creation: as a financial expert and retired MD of Federal mortgage Bank with more than 30 years experience who mingled with different investors from different global spheres, we will use our wealth of experience, exposure and connections to invite investors from within and outside Nigeria to come and invest in Gombe given the potential greatness of Gombe and the availability of raw materials for production. Gombe state is the most peaceful state in Northeastern Nigeria. This will help create Jobs, diversify the economy, improve the living standard of our people in both urban and rural areas while improving the State’s internally generated Revenue IGR.
The people of Gombe are known for their massive agricultural produce, how do you intend to enhance agricultural products and development of agribusiness?
Agriculture is the major occupation Gombe people, from time immemorial it have being the economic livelihood of our people, ranging from livestock and crops cultivation we have plans and strategies to radically support our small and large scale farmers.
Within our power if given the chance, we will embrace massive and mechanised agricultural scheme and agro-allied industries to maximally explore the agro potential of the state. All the needed support required to revamp agriculture would be provided, such as Agricultural extension service, fertilizer, Agrochemicals and vices to the Farmers.
Lastly, what are your chances of winning the party’s ticket against other heavyweight contestants in the PDP?
My chances of winning this ticket against other aspirants is because Gombe is dire need of a Governor with high Degree of experience, who have exposure and connections to transform the state, above all we are in need of a Governor who understand the problems facing our people in aspect of life particularly Famers and civil servants.
Moreover, I declared to win the election not only to contest and I want to assure the good people of Gombe state we will serve Gombe state with everything we have at our disposal.
