Fraud In AAU: Hundreds Of Millions More Traced To Dr Austin Aghemelo As Stakeholders Tasked University To Ascertain Actual Sum Diverted, Stolen

TONGUES are wagging in the Edo State-owed Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma that theĀ  alleged ragging massive fraud in the University’s Revenue Generating Unit may have been unintentionally underestimated.
Emerging information from the university is to the effect that the actual amount of money involved in the said alleged financial fraud is in hundreds of millions of naira and as against a “paltry” of N43 million naira earlier reported by trojan.com.ng.
At the centre of the alleged unprecedented financial fraud is Dr. Austin Aghemelo of the University’s Department of Political Science and the sacked Chairman of the University Revenue Generating Unit.
The latest information indicated that the University’s weekly collected revenue from operators of motorcyclesĀ  amounts to N600,000.00 out of which N10,000.00 only is always said to be remitted to the University by Dr. Austin Aghemelo, diverting N590, 000.00 on a weekly basis. “This practice was on for many years”, it was revealed.
The same story applies to the University’s collected revenues from operators of kiosks, shops and as electricity bills as well as other revenue sources on the university campus.
“It will therefore be stating the obvious to affirm that the amount of money the University is defrauded is in hundreds of millions of naira”, it was said
Stakeholders in the university reaffirmed their appeal yesterday to the relevant authorities to ensure thatĀ  justice is done in the instant case in the interest of the continued survival and development of the university.
They particularly tasked the Prof. Onigbinde-led Administrative Panel to painstakingly ascertain the actual sum of money the university has been defrauded with a view to taking appropriate steps of recovery and sanctions.
They vowed to continue to monitor developments on the matter.
