Former U.S. House Speaker Pelosi Suggests President Biden Should Reconsider Re-Election Bid

FORMER House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has suggested that President Joe Biden may need to reconsider his candidacy for the 2024 election.

Her public call on Wednesday, the strongest yet from a top Democrat, comes amid growing uncertainty within the party about Biden’s ability to lead the party forward.

Pelosi’s comments could signal the start of a new chapter in the Democratic race, with pressure mounting on the President to weigh his options and potentially clear the way for a new candidate.

Although concerns are growing that his candidacy could lead to a sweeping defeat for Democrats, including losing the presidency, the House, and the Senate, President Biden remains resolute in his bid for re-election. In a letter to Congress on Monday, he reiterated his commitment to running, stating his decision is final.

However, on Wednesday, Representative Nancy Pelosi suggested on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ that the President should continue to consider his options and potentially reassess his decision.

“It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run,” she said. “We’re all encouraging him to make that decision. Because time is running short.”

When asked if she wanted President Biden to run for re-election, Representative Pelosi responded, “I want him to do whatever he decides to do. And that’s the way it is. Whatever he decides, we go with.”

Representative Pelosi indicated that she prefers to postpone discussions about President Biden’s political future until after the NATO summit in Washington, which the President is hosting this week

The summit will conclude with a news conference on Thursday, marking the President’s first press conference since his controversial debate performance, which sparked concerns about his mental sharpness and ability to continue in the race.

“Let’s just hold off,” she said. “Whatever you’re thinking, either tell somebody privately, but you don’t have to put that out on the table until we see how we go this week.”

CBS News recently reported that four senior House Democrats, namely Representatives Jerry Nadler, Mark Takano, Adam Smith, and Joe Morelle, urged President Biden to drop out of the presidential race during a Zoom meeting with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Sunday.

According to sources familiar with the meeting, the lawmakers expressed their concerns about Biden’s recent debate performance and believe he should step aside.

Additionally, Representatives Jim Himes, Don Beyer, and Jamie Raskin have also voiced concerns about President Biden’s chances in the election

Although initial reports indicated Beyer’s withdrawal of support, he clarified his stance on Sunday, reaffirming his endorsement of President Biden.
