Our sources in the Delta State Ministry of Finance revealed that the financial graft bothering on duplication of government vouchers with forged signatures of both elected and appointed government officials and falsification of receipts is being coordinated by one Mr. Sunday Agbayeke in the Accountant-General’s office. A further investigation unearthed all kinds of spurious memos allegedly raised by the Accountant-General’s office for traveling purposes by civil servants or public officers, appointed or voted into the office which were never embarked upon.

Many more of these memos were said to have been raised for the training of different categories of staffers without actually engaging in the said pieces of training after monies had been disbursed for the same purpose. Our findings further revealed that monies that were released for infrastructural development either solely by government or between government and private sector partner(s) disappeared without the jobs being executed.

Other memos raised by the government pretentiously for fraudulent purpose are the ones directed to meet the needs of traditional institutions where the real amount are shrouded in secrecy. The government’s wage bills over the last few years for salaries of worker and entitlements for retirees has remained constantly the same after many civil servants have exited either through retirement or death.

Messages sent to the Accountant-General several weeks ago were not responded to at the time of filing this report.
