Edo State PDP Crisis: How Subjugation By Obaseki Failed;

By Isaac Jesuobo

As a matter of fact, it was not ‘harmonization’ that failed. The real harmonization of the new entrants happened immediately they joined the party and victory was secured under the PDP platform. What failed was the bid of the governor to subjugate, suppress, conquer, defeat, dominate, enslave, oppress, repress, tyranize…the members of the Party that gave Governor Godwin Obaseki comfort away from the ‘battery rams’ of APC. All the propaganda of harmonization was meant to deceive the unsuspecting public and his cult followers. If you check the dictionary meaning of harmony where harmonization was derived from, you will find out that it means concord, unity, peace, amity, friendship…not enslavement, force, suppression, subjugation, tyranny…

The tyrannous mind is easy to identify and define, and its recognizable target is the weak without state powers – exactly what Obaseki thought old PDP members were. Obaseki targeted members of the old PDP for suppression early in his career in the party immediately he won the 2020 election. It was shocking, and still shocking today to the sections of freedom fighters who saw Obaseki in 2020 as one who launched his career in PDP as one who’s basic aim was to challenge an unjust status quo in APC. And up till today, his political philosophy of tyranny is difficult to separate from progressive ideology by some who still can’t understand how he dresses in garbs of deciet. The elusive propagandas that defeated APC in the 2020 election were those of seductive ideals of ‘defeating Godfatherism in Edo State,’ which Obaseki has now turned himself into unfortunately where state laws are edited in matters of minutes, delegates lists are forged in the comfort of arm-chairs within the confines of government house and the idea of free and fair election is being relegated.

Fortunately for the party and its members, Obaseki met his brickwalls and stumbling block in Chief Dan Orbih and other lovers of freedom with virtues who were and are still bent on protecting the sanctimoniousness of the PDP Constitution with their last bloods. These people challenge Obaseki’s show of force not by weapons and violence, but by the processes of competent courts, with alliances for a common purpose of not allowing him to get away with illegalities. They are challenging his demonstration of overt power, raw power, that intoxicating power, that obsession of power…that power where he wish to instruct the people who is the master. Obaseki wish to excercise control, which has been failing, over the willing and unwilling. He says he is the leader over people unwilling to follow him as if their civic liberties has been suspended in an Emergency Rule. He mimics the likes of Idi Amin Dada of Uganda, Gnassingbe Eyadema of Togo, Hastings Banda of Malawi and other tyrants that have dotted the face of Africa.

You can imagine Obaseki jackbooting through a prostrated group of party men – that familiar tyrannous shock-trooping of a defeated people, storming their homes and offices of his political opponents, carting away his victims in total disdain and scorn. That structured form of subjugation. But he is failing – his intended actions were apprehended from the beginning by no other steel armour than Chief Dan Orbih, and we shall see to his exit come 2024 where he will go down history as the worst governor that ever ruled over Edo State.
