Dala Inland Dry Port, Declared Port of Origin, Destination

THE Minister of Transport Engineer Mu’ azu Jaje Sambo has on Friday declared the Multi billion Naira Dala Inland Dry Port as a Port of Origin and destination.

Declaring the DIDP open during a Colouful Ceremony held at the Premises of the Port in Zawaciki, Kumbotso local government area of Kano state said the port is one of the Six Inland Dry Ports in the Country established with the sole aim of reducing hardship facing maritime practitioners and other stakeholders in the industry .

Engineer Mu’ azu Ssmbo revealed that the importance of Kano as a Commercial Capital of Northern Nigeria with huge agricultural export and import Volumes cannot be undermined hence the establishment of the Dala Dry Port.

” The state has a Sizable number of Textile and Agro Allied Industries and Assembly plants as well as Manufacturing Industries among others that necessitated the Provision of infrastructure such as port inquestion to help business men move goods from their locations to other destinations in Nigeria with ease of doing business”

According to the Minister, the establishment of the Dry Ports where to among others help decongest the Sea Ports and taking Shipping and Ports Services closer to the door steps of the importers and Exporters.

He said the Dala Inland Dry Port which was conceived in 2006 by the federal government came under the close supervision of a Permanent Secretary of Federal Ministry of transport and Chairman inter Ministerial Committee who was given the mandate to see to the realisation of the Ports nation wide.

” Today is another miles stone achieved by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari on one hand and Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on the other.

He said the state government need to be appreciated inview of the huge infrastructural development such as Roads, Electricity Networks and other social amenities.

Speaking earlier the Kano state governor represented by the state acting governor Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna said

” It is with great pleasure and indeed a great sense of humility that i give praise to Allah (SWT) that gave us logetivity and resolve to continue and strife towards the delivery of yet another remarkable economic enabler .

Today marks the process of unlocking and harnessing the potentialities that are portend .

Gabduje said “it my honour and privilege to stand before you and on a land transformed from scratch to a gigantuan and beautiful inland dry Port today . This is another project delivered for the enhancement of welfare of the people of Kano state with a view to freeing them from abject poverty and restoring them on to the path of wealth”

The governor said ” I am delighted with the presence of one of our own a fulfulde man and Minister of Transport Engineer Muazu Jaje Sambo . Your presence here is a testimony of President Muhammadu Buhari’s concern for the welbeing of the people of Kano state”

Governor Ganduje stated further that the ancient City of Kano played a unique role as a commercial hub in the pre colonial period as the first Aeroplane that flew into Nigeria also landed in Kano signifying how the state excelled with amenities such as an Airport which was a Tourists attraction .
