He said the abductors stormed the area around 12:30 a.m and took away the victims.

Tanko said: “It was around 12:30 a.m that our volunteer vigilantes notice some unusual movement in the outskirts of the community, like 200 metres away, and the flash torches as a sign of communication, but there was no response.

“The kidnappers operated for about 10 to 20 minutes and noticed that the vigilantes were on high alert.”

The community leader explained that one person from the community, Abubakar Sule, was injured during the attack is currently receiving treatment in a medical facility.

Another resident, Philip John, said the abductors invaded the community on foot around 1 a.m.

According to him, the abductors came in large numbers and took seven vantage positions while shooting into the air to scare the residents.

John said: “The victims include 16 men, some children and 32 women. The villagers could not repel them because of the kind of sophisticated weapons they were using.”

Police spokesman Muhammed Jalige, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), did not answer his calls when our correspondent phoned him for confirmation of the attack.
