ASUU strike : NANS Zone A Steps Down Protest For Skills Acquisition Training

THE National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Kano, NANS Zone A, has entered into agreement with the state government to sponsor interested Students on skills acquisition training ,so as to engage them during the ongoing strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU.

Based on this, the students noted that in view of prevailing security challenge facing the country NANS resolved to step down earlier protest to expressed their displeasure over Seven Months strike action embarked upon by Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU

Addressing a Press Conference on Thursday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kano, Secretariat NANS zone A Coordinator Comrade Ziya’u Sarki ,said in view of the protest government has agreed to sponsor skills acquisition training for students to engage themselves during the ongoing strike action embarked upon by ASUU.

To help us overcome this,”I have just signed MoU with Fahmeedah v
Vocational training and business enterprises to give free skill acquisition training to interested Students, instead of staying at home doing nothing

According to him,”it is very unfortunate that our government are not paying attention to the educational sector”

We held several meeting with the security operatives over the earlier proposed protest but we were told that the Security situation facing the country ,we should shelve the idea

” Our plan was to shut down the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA)but the security told us that they can only allowed the protest at a designated places

We have no option than to make this Press Conference and inform you ,parents and general public about this .

But this decision is not borne out of cowardness or fear but in adherence to the security advise by the relevant agencies “
