APPLYBOARD, a leading platform for international student mobility, has announced the winners of its 2024 International Alumni of Impact programme, celebrating 10 exceptional former international students who have significantly impacted communities worldwide through their education.
Among the honoured recipients are two Nigerian women, Christine Eruokwu and Rufina Ajalie, who have been recognised for their outstanding efforts in empowering immigrant women across Canada. Their achievements highlight the programme’s mission to showcase the transformative power of international education.

Christine and Rufina’s journey began in Nigeria, where their close friendship fuelled a shared commitment to education. Both pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of New Brunswick in Canada. Since graduating, they have made a substantial difference in the lives of many, working to bridge the gap between immigrant communities and Canadian society.
Christine founded Kaima Design, a fashion company that supports women’s and children’s education in Africa while mentoring women in Saint John, New Brunswick. Rufina, leveraging her expertise in human resources, co-founded the Black Business and Professional Network, which helps new immigrants integrate into the Canadian workforce.
In 2021, the duo teamed up to launch United Colors of Fashion (UCOF), a non-profit organisation that empowers immigrant women across Canada. UCOF provides a platform for these women to utilise their skills, build connections, and integrate into Canadian society through fashion.
In recognition of their significant contributions, ApplyBoard has established one-time scholarships in Christine and Rufina’s names for an incoming international student at their alma mater, the University of New Brunswick. Since the initiative’s launch in 2023, ApplyBoard has provided $20,000 in scholarships, reinforcing its mission to make education accessible to students worldwide.
This year’s recognition of Eruokwu and Ajalie follows the 2023 award given to Nigerian entrepreneur Iyinoluwa Aboyeji for his contributions to Africa’s innovation and investment landscape. The 2024 winners embody the resilience, innovation, leadership, and generosity that ApplyBoard aims to celebrate through its International Alumni of Impact programme.
