Adamu/Remi Rendezvous And The Senators Show Of Salutary Solidarity, By Bala Ibrahim

WHEN like-minded colleagues meet, sometimes the show goes beyond the call of duty, they involuntarily exhibit the sentiment of nostalgic affection for the period in the past. That regretful feeling was expressed by Senator Remi Tinubu, the wife of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidential flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress, APC, when she met with Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the national chairman of the APC, at the party sectariate on yesterday, Thursday, 08/09/2022.

In what looks like a show of solidarity, barely 24 hours after her husband had visited the National Chairman of the party at the secretariat in Abuja, the Senator also made similar visit. Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu visited in the company of his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima and other party chieftains, and similarly, Senator Remi was there in the company of a delegation of women leaders, including Hajiya Nana Shetima, the wife of the Presidential running mate, Senator Kashim Shetima.

In his characteristic high humour spirit, Chairman Abdullahi Adamu, whose ability to find things funny, and who derives a lot of joy in doing so, immediately took to teasing the august visitor, that arrived at the sectariate in September. Everyone in the office was instinctively amused, because of the lively and teasing comments coming from the chairman, which Senator Remi said, she is not the only one that missed them, but the red chamber in particular, and the National Assembly in general.

“The absence of the APC National Chairman at the Senate was felt by a large number of the lawmakers. We are here today to the business of the day and to felicitate with the chairman because, I’ve missed him so much in the Senate. So it’s a thing of joy that we are here on the solidarity visit and courtesy visit to also intimate you on our activities. Despite knowing that the timetable is not yet out, it’s best for me to come here and also tell you that we’ve been busy quietly, but we want to intimate you on the activities. We are yet to get our organogram fine-tuned. What the incoming administration needs to do is to consolidate all the works that our President is doing and I can tell you that I’m not new in government. We’ve been there working. I believe that with what he has done so far, the next administration will be able to consolidate on that. But we are here to tell you that we Nigerian women are ready. I want to reassure the chairman that we are all ready to work and then whenever you need us, we are just a call away. We are ready to work and ensure victory for our party come 2023”.

In reacting to the eulogy, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who was a colleague of Senator Remi Tinubu at the senate, added what he called a protest, thus: “I want to protest on the famous campaign slogan of the women, saying, No woman no man, or no woman no nation. It suppose to be, ”No man no woman”. The hall went into a loud and large laughter, at the end of which another woman rephrased the slogan to, “Ignore a woman and loose election”. This again, threw the hall into a more frenzied laughter.

Such was the kind of humour shared by the august visitors and their September host at the secretariat.

Looking intently at Senator Remi, Senator Adamu said, “The first lady in waiting, I am satisfied, knowing that you and other women leaders are willing to stand by the party’s presidential candidate and running mate for the forthcoming elections. We cannot thank you enough for finding time this early stage to come and meet with us in the APC that we call Buhari House. I want to assure you that what we can do, by way of planning, is to ensure maximum participation in the efforts we will be making as the NWC of the party, to stand with you. We have promised to stand shoulder to shoulder with both the presidential candidate and his running mate. So, to that extent, you can be rest assured that we will be together in this race. Whatever you need us to do, we will willingly do it to ensure success of this effort. Your own journey will be a bit more difficult because of customary mannerisms. Some of the best brains are among you, women. Some of the hardest workers are among you, women. But because of who we are, we are not able to see the best of women yet. As far as the leadership of the APC is concerned, President Buhari is very much on the ticket. We will not see his picture, but his spirit will drive this efforts. He has done so much under trying situations. And he is polling the fortune of this country to everybody’s surprise.”

In the end, being a bantersaurus rex, by virtue of his excellent and hilarious entertaining skills, Senator Abdullahi Adamu succeeded in turning the rendezvous with his fellow Senator, into a salutary show of solidarity.
